Dr. Sachita Shah, Associate Professor, Division of Emergency Medicine, Department of Medicine, University of Washington School of Medicine, Seattle WA will discuss the use of a novel cardiopulmonary ultrasound protocol for use in patients presenting with undifferentiated dyspnea in resource-limited settings. The webinar will provide information on prevalent causes of dyspnea with comparison of low/middle and high income countries, and how ultrasound can be used to improve diagnostic capacity at the bedside. We will review a complete differential diagnosis, scanning pattern and the sonographic appearance of specific disease processes including tuberculous pericarditis, acute decompensated heart failure, effusions, and pneumonia including pulmonary TB. We will conclude with discussion of potential pitfalls in relying on assumptions regarding sensitivity of ultrasound derived from studies in high-income countries.
